MY PET BIRDS

This is Charlie Byrd (named after a noted guitarist).  He is a hand-fed male  cockatiel that I adopted in 1999, he was 4 yrs. old.  He talks and whistles.  He says “Charlie Byrd”, “What are you doing?”, “Charlie Byrd’s a good bird”, “Charlie Byrd’s a pretty bird”.  He also whistles the Andy Griffith theme song and “You’re in the Army now”. He also does many other types of whistles.

This is Little Guy.  He is a male parakeet and he is the oldest of the flock.  I got him in 1992 at eight weeks old. He is physically disabled, but he flies, sits on your finger or perches and is as happy as a bird can be. He also talks.  Sometimes it‘s so clear, it’s scary. He has about a 75 word vocabulary and also whistles.  One of the phrases he says is “Talk to me”. Then one day out of the clear blue, he says “Talk to Birdie”.  Makes you wonder!  Sadly he passed away in March of 2003.  But I had 11 years of fun and happiness with him.  He will never be forgotten.

These are my Half-Moon Conures and their names are Cookie (the female) and Rascal (the male).  Cookie is on the top picture and on the left in the bottom picture. They were adopted in 1995 at five years old.  They talk and whistle.  Their one phrase is “How are you”.  Sadly Rascal passed away in May of 2003.

This is Gizmo.  He is a parrotlet. He was adopted. He is 7 yrs. old and had a feather picking problem.  This is why his breast and back are bare.  He is capable of talking but at his age only time will tell.

This is Tuffy.  He is the newest bird added to the flock.  He started to talk at about six months but he needs some taming.
